Suraj Tiwari was born in a normal family on 17 November 1996 in the Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh state. Suraj Tiwari’s father Rajesh Tiwari works as a tailor and his mother Asha Devi is a housewife. In Suraj’s family, apart from his parents, there are two brothers named Rahul Tiwari and Raghav Tiwari, and a sister named Priya Tiwari.

Suraj Tiwari’s early education was from Maharshi Parshuram Public School located near the house. After this, he passed 10th from SBRL Vaish Residential Educational Public Academy located in Mainpuri district and 12th from Swami Sampurnanand Inter College Mainpuri. Suraj Tiwari once failed in the 12th examination. After 12th, he went to Delhi for graduation, where he enrolled in Jawaharlal Nehru University to study Bachelor of Science. Due to an accident in 2017, Suraj Tiwari, who left his Bachelor of Science studies, obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Russian language from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Currently, Suraj Tiwari is pursuing a Master of Arts in JNU itself.
Suraj Tiwari Train Accident 2017
On 24 January 2017, while traveling from Delhi to Uttar Pradesh, Suraj Tiwari fell from the train in Ghaziabad and after that when he regained consciousness, he was in AIIMS Delhi. Suraj Tiwari lost his legs as well as his right hand and two fingers of his left hand due to this horrific accident.
This accident had a deep impact on Suraj’s life and he went into depression. In the same year, Suraj Tiwari’s brother also died in a road accident. During an interview, Suraj said – “I had lost both my legs and my brother; our financial condition had become very bad. At that time I had lost the will to live, but I was not even fit to kill myself.”
Suraj Tiwari’s UPSC Strategy
Suraj Tiwari started preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination in adverse circumstances after completing his Bachelor of Arts degree. In his first attempt, he had reached the interview stage, but he was not getting their name in the final merit list. Even after failure on the first attempt, he continued his preparation and secured the 917th rank in the UPSC CSE 2022 final results. Suraj Tiwari chose English as the medium of examination and gave first preference to Uttar Pradesh as the cadre with Jharkhand as second.
